I used to write these posts a few years back, telling you all about the little things that I have been doing over the month, what I've been reading, wearing, loving. Here is the last Little Loves post that I wrote. I thought that at a time like this it's nice to write and share something positive so I would bring it back. So here is what I've been loving in May - my May Loves.
I've been reading a lot over lockdown. I ordered some books from a local bookstore that is delivering and I've also downloaded some onto my iPad. My favourite book I've read this month is *The Foundling by Stacey Halls. It was so gripping that I read it in a day. It is brilliantly written and I must say that it tugged at my heartstrings. It is about a young girl who finds herself pregnant out of wedlock and gives up her baby to be raised in a special hospital. When she returns 6 years later to collect her, she finds out that she has already been collected by someone else. I think it resonated with me because I couldn't imagine giving one of my babies up at birth, it is truly heartbreaking.
I've also been encouraging the children to read. E (13) read *The Good Girl's Guide to Murder and she really enjoyed it. Miss J (9) read *Sherlock Holmes - The Engineer's Thumb which is new out in July (we had a press copy to review). It's aimed at children aged 7 upwards and while it was a little easy for her (she has a high reading age) she really enjoyed it and couldn't wait to tell me all about it. It is an illustrated adaptation of the adult book and is a great way to get children into reading Sherlock Holmes and that genre. She learnt a lot of new words and would love to read more so that was a big hit! You can pre-order it on Amazon now.
Little Boy (5) loved *The Day The Crayons Came Home - the sequel to the funny book The Day The Crayons Quit. We had watched it being read on YouTube and just had to buy the book for ourselves.
I have also started reading the Sunday Times again. We have a subscription to it from the local corner shop and on a Sunday morning the hubby walks out to pick up the newspaper and bacon and makes himself bacon sandwiches and I read the paper. We do the crossword together in the afternoon. It's become a little routine of ours that we really enjoy and I'd like to keep for at least one Sunday a month when this is all over.
Well, I totally binge watched Normal People over the course of two nights. James Corden said it changed his life watching it, and while I wouldn't go that far it is definitely one I would recommend watching, but only if you're not a prude!!
I also started watching Miranda with my eldest daughter. I try to do something one on one with each of them once a week and she wanted to watch something funny so I thought we would give Miranda a go as I haven't watched it before. We both enjoyed it so hopefully we'll continue, I do love spending time with each of them.
As I write this I am watching Hospital: Coronavirus Edition. It is quite shocking to see inside the hospitals and seeing what they are facing. We were already taking the situation seriously but this has really made me think much more about it.
I actually haven't been listening to much music and I really miss listening to podcasts, which I used to listen to every day. I will listen to a little music when I'm running but I should download something new to listen to as I am missing it.
I have been baking up a storm! The list is endless! Today I made a vanilla and chocolate marble cake which I can't wait to have a slice of! I've been blogging a lot of my recipes on my food blog We Made This Vegan. The latest one I have written up is my Vegan Pull Apart Cinnamon Bread. I've been keeping the cake dome stocked up but it has meant a weight gain for me! I've also been making a lot of bread recipes. We try not to go to the supermarket so we often have to wait a long time between deliveries so I need to make bread to keep us going in between! I have been getting better at it, and even made some delicious dinner rolls the other day to use as burger buns and finger rolls for hot dogs.
I've been wearing all the comfy clothes to be honest! I have managed to sort out everyone's clothes on lockdown, including getting some of my summer pre-pregnancy clothes out. I love doing that, it feels great finding clothes that you used to love and can wear again. I also bought a *loungewear set which is so comfy and looks nice on too - although it is all about the comfort at the moment!
There's not much else to say but stay safe. I'm sharing what we are getting up to on my Instagram channel every day (@wemadethislife) and I'm still making videos over on my YouTube channel.
