I'm hoping to do lots more travelling over the next couple of years. With a large family and young children for the meantime I plan on sticking to European getaways as the travel time won't be too difficult. Ideally we want to visit places with a short flight time and there is so much to do and see in Europe, I can't wait to see more of the world and introduce my children to different experiences and cultures. Read on if you want to know some of the top place I am thinking about for short getaways in Europe.
Spain
Spain is top of my list because it enjoys such beautiful weather for much of the year. I have already seen much of Spain, including Torremolinos and Madrid and we are heading to Cadiz and Cartagena later this year. I love the Spanish way of life and their shops are just beautiful. One place I'd really like to visit in Spain is Valencia. It is a vibrant port city and it is hailed as a city for arts and sciences and boasts a planetarium, an oceanarium and an interactive museum.
It looks like a great place to visit with kids as I'm sure they would have lots of fun and it would be educational too. The VisitValencia website the Valencia Tourism Official site has lots more information on what there is to do in the area. In fact on this website you can put in the category of activity you are looking for and the dates you are visiting and it will show you everything which is on, making it really easy to plan a trip there. I'd also love to take a little break in Spain just to chill out on the beach and take the kids to a nearby water or theme parks as I know they would absolutely love that and there would be something for everyone!
Germany
I find Germany such an interesting place and ever since I visited Berlin a few years ago on my own I've wanted to take the family there too. The museums on the war there are second to none and you can feel really emotional viewing Holocaust museums and seeing in real life the places where significant events in the war happened. I'll never forget visiting Checkpoint Charlie or the Berlin wall. Of course the food is also amazing, I know my husband would really enjoy it. It's definitely on my list for places to take the children soon.
France
We recently saw a lot of France on our little French road trip last summer. We saw a bit of Northern France, and moved on downwards towards Paris. Paris was a real highlight, I love touring cities as there is so much to see and do. We also had a little break in a sunny spot to rest and chill out for a few days which was lovely. When we get a bigger car we will definitely spend one of the school holidays travelling down to the South of France for a sunshine break.
Italy
Italy is another one of my favourite European destinations and we are taking the children there this summer to see Rome and Pisa, both places that we have visited before they were born. I do love shopping in Italy too, although it can be expensive! Last year the hubby and I were lucky enough to enjoy a child free break to Venice which was amazing and it's somewhere I think I would like to take the girls when they are a little older. I'm not so sure about the boys - there's too much open water!

There are loads of great places to have a short getaway in Europe, there's even loads of great places in the UK that can make a short break even cheaper.
