Ten Ways To Prepare Your Home For Sale

    Oct 21, 2019 by Ali · Leave a Comment

    collaborative post

When the time comes to sell your home, everyone wants to do so quickly and for the best price possible. The trouble is, it takes more than will or good luck to make this happen. Although it might be possible to sell your house as it stands, planning and preparation can help you to attract offers you're happy to accept. After all, buyers aren't often willing to pay top dollar for properties with structural issues, funny smells, and horrific decor. For an easier selling process, you must put the work in. With that in mind, here are ten ways to prepare your home for sale.

    1. Tackle The Urgent Repairs

Every homeowner has a long list of repairs they have to do, but haven't gotten around to yet. Before putting your home on the market, you must remember to tackle this list. Although certain issues, like a leaking tap, might not appear urgent, most buyers would use them to negotiate a lower price. Rather than lose money, you should fix whatever's broken. Many problems can be resolved yourself, but you will need expert help for others, including those involving electrics.

    1. Clear Out Your Clutter

Clutter can make a home look small and uninviting. Even if you're used to the mess, it will put off any potential buyers, distracting them from the many great things that your house has to offer. Having your things littering every surface also makes it difficult for others to imagine themselves living at the property. Because of this, you must purge your home of clutter. Remember that buyers will want to check inside cupboards and closets, so you can't hide your mess instead.

    1. Scrub Like Never Before

Once the house is free of junk, you have to clean it. Cleaning a property for sale must go far beyond whatever chores you carry out daily. Every inch of the home will have to be scrubbed, from the closets to the baseboards. An unclean home suggests a lack of care, which will put off buyers. If you don't have the time to carry out this work yourself, you can hire a cleaning service. After the bulk of the work is done, make sure that you keep cleaning up after yourself every day.

    1. Work On The Kitchen

As the heart of family homes, you must take good care of your kitchen. Without an attractive, sociable, and clean kitchen space, you'll fail to impress buyers or valuation surveyors. Before replacing the entire kitchen, you should consider what needs improving. Perhaps you could turn to Granite Transformations Ipswich to replace your worktops, for example. Sometimes, the fixes are even smaller than that. Little changes, like repainting unit doors, can often have a big impact.

    1. Let Natural Light In

Natural light has the power to transform a room. What once appeared small, dark, and dingy seems large, open, and welcoming in the light of day. Because of this, you must enhance the natural light in your house. Make sure that curtains or drapes remain open during viewings and that there isn't any furniture or shrubbery blocking the windows. Hanging windows on the walls will help too. If you can't add natural light, then install additional lighting to illuminate the space.

    1. Make A Blank Canvas

During viewings, buyers try to imagine living in the properties that they see. What makes this incredibly difficult is the decor choices of the homeowners. If you pick loud and outlandish colors or patterns for your home, you will distract people from the potential of the property. A simple remedy is depersonalizing every room. Take the time to paint over bright colors and replace bold wallpaper with a neutral option. Remember to put away any personal items or photos too.

    1. Boost Your Curb Appeal

First impressions matter, especially when selling houses. Many potential buyers decide whether or not they're interested in a property before they even set foot in the door. If someone is put off by the exterior of your home, it will cloud their opinion of the rest of the house. Thankfully, there are many ways to boost curb appeal. Make sure you start by fixing any issues, such as removing the weeds. After that, you can beautify the front area by planting flowers and adding ornaments.

    1. Put Any Pets Away

Even if you love animals, many people don't. Because of this, you must make sure that your pets aren't around when people view your property. You should also hide bowls, toys, and anything else that might suggest an animal lives in the house. Some buyers would be put off just at the thought of an animal being in the property. If possible, you should ask a loved one to take care of your pet for a few days so that your house isn't being covered in fur just before viewings begin.

    1. Attempt A Test Run

Before hosting your first viewing, you should have a test run. Take the time to inspect every room in the house as if it were your first time seeing them. A potential buyer must be able to move between rooms with ease and certainly shouldn't be tripping over or bumping into furniture. If you find that you are, remember to move that item before it becomes a problem. Asking a friend or family member to conduct a test run of their own can also be incredibly helpful.

    1. Go For A Walk

Trying to view a property with the homeowner there isn't easy. Many potential buyers will struggle to get a good look at the house because they'll feel awkward and uncomfortable looking through another person's closets while they watch. With the current owner there, it's also difficult to imagine yourself living in the property. For this reason, you must take yourself out of the situation. Leave the house before buyers arrive and don't return until your realtor tells you they're gone.

Selling a house is a difficult process, but with the advice above, you can avoid hassle and get a better deal.
