When you are renovating a room, and you are in the midst of designing it, you need to be clear on what you actually need to decide on. There are many decisions that you need to make in ensuring that the room is going to look its best, and be the style that you want it to be, and you need to know what these are early on. In this post, we are going to take a look at some of the biggest decisions in any room design, to ensure that it ends up being as successful as possible.
Colour Choice
First up, let’s think about the colour choice. This is going to affect more or less every other aspect of the room that you need to think about, so it’s important to get it right. A lot goes into the choice of colour, and you get a lot out of it. It’s not a bad idea to look up the colour psychology for whatever colours you are considering, to think about what effect they might have on your experience of the room. Beyond that, just go for some colour you enjoy and which is easy to work with. An interior designer might be able to help you here.
Flooring
The flooring in any room is always going to make a huge impact on the room as a whole. There are many choices you have when it comes to flooring: engineered wood flooring vs solid wood flooring, laminate vs carpet, and so on. Which you go for is entirely up to you, but consider: the purpose and function of the room, the colour and decor decisions you have already made, and the cleanliness and safety of any particular floor type. Carpet in the kitchen or in the bathroom is obviously a no-no!
Layout
Even before you have bought any of the furniture for the renovated room, you need to start thinking about the layout of the finished room. With as clear an idea as possible regarding the layout of the room, you can make sure that you are going to know which items to buy - if anything, this will now be easier once you know what dimensions you are working with. Consider a few options and really just use this as your opportunity to play around with the space and make of it what you will.
Function
It would be foolish to overlook function, as it interacts with and imbues everything else that you need to think about. In truth, this is not a standalone thing, but something that works in and alongside everything else. Make sure that you are aware of the function of the room, but also the function of everything in it. The clearer you are on this vision, the more successful the room’s renovation will be, and the more that you will find yourself enjoying that part of your home. If you are stuck on this, ask others for help.
