Tips on Choosing the Right Floor for Your Home

    Aug 14, 2017 by Ali · Leave a Comment

Floors are an important part of any home, and not something which can be left to the last minute to hurriedly choose. Floors need to be practical, and suited to the room in which they are being laid. But they also need to look good, and make up an important part of the aesthetic appeal of your home. Different rooms require different approaches to choosing flooring. Here, you can read some important tips which will help you make better decisions when it comes to choosing flooring for your home.

Family Considerations: Pets, Children or Hobbies

One of the most important considerations when choosing flooring is what happens in the room where the flooring is to be installed. Are children going to be using the room to play in? Do you have dogs? Or a cat who likes to scratch things? Do you have hobbies such as fitness activities or fixing machines? All of these factors can shape your choice of flooring.
If your flooring is to be in a room where hobbies are taking place, or animals tend to live, then it is a good idea to opt for hard-wearing and scratch resistant surface, rather than going for something which looks nice. Minimising the chances of future damage is more important than aesthetic considerations, in this kind of case.

    Moisture

Obviously, the type of flooring you choose will also be dependent on in which room in the house it is being installed. Bathrooms and kitchens may require flooring materials which can resist moisture and damp. Buying from experienced retailers such as CTD Tiles will allow you to tap into their knowledge. A good retailer will recognise that a bathroom may be vulnerable to moisture damage and as such can point you in the right direction.

    Budgetary Constraints

Obviously, you also need to think about how much money you have to spend. Budgetary considerations should certainly shape your choice of materials. It may mean that you have to sacrifice some aesthetic considerations, if you need more hard-wearing materials for a utility room or children’s playroom. Spending more than you can afford is simply a way of creating problems for yourself further down the line, however many renovation shows on television do it, and should be avoided.

    Installation: Doing it Yourself?

A further factor to consider, especially when it comes to assessing the overall cost of the floor installation, is whether or not you are installing it yourself. Clearly, opting to install the floor yourself will save money. But you need to honestly evaluate whether or not you have the skills for the job, and whether you will actually cause damage if you go down this route. Unintentional damage or making a mistake can end up being very costly indeed.

    Maintenance

How you maintain your floor is also an important consideration. If the room in question is used by animals and children a lot, then it is a good idea to have a floor that is easy to clean and maintain.

    Always Choose Flooring Wisely

Flooring is something which is a vital part of any comfortable home. Never neglect the space under your feet, otherwise you can be setting yourself up for all kinds of problems further down the line.
