Ways to Put Your Stamp on a New Home

    Aug 5, 2019 by Ali · Leave a Comment

    collaborative post

Putting your stamp on a new home is one of those tasks that's easier said than done. Everyone wants their new home to immediately feel perfect and like it was always theirs, but it doesn't tend to work like that. Instead, you need to take steps to make your home feel like yours by putting your own stamp on it. There are so many ways to do this and you're in the right place if you're currently stuck for ideas.

We're going to look at the many and varied things you can do to make your home feel like it belongs to you. You'll have it feeling like it has your unique and particular stamp on it in no time at all. And none of the things we're about to discuss are particularly complicated or hard to get right, so find out more about them now.

Furnish it in a Way That Works for You

The way in which you furnish your home will obviously have a big impact on how much it feels like yours. When you have it looking exactly how you want it and you feel able to relax there thanks to the furnishing choices you make, it'll start to feel like your home rather than a blank canvas. Think about what kind of furnishings will help you feel comfortable, relaxed and at ease in the home because how you experience your furniture and the home in general each day is what matters most.

Make it Practical for Your Family

It also has to be practical for your family. Every family uses their home in particular ways. Even the small things that you do will be different to what other families do; that's just the nature of being a family unit. That's why you need to take into account those little quirks and particularities when putting your own stamp on your home. When you make your home more practical and better suited to you and the rest of your family, it starts to feel like it's yours.

    Don't Let Unpacking Wait

When you first move into a place, it's easy to just let the unpacking wait a while. It seems like too much hard work to unpack everything, but it really needs to be done. When you're living out of cardboard boxes, it's hard to make the place feel like it's yours. It all feels too temporary and that's not the way it should be. So, as tempting as it might be to leave until next week or next month, unpack everything as soon as you can.

    Change the Colour Scheme

Changing the colour scheme of the home is a good idea if the way it is now is not really doing it for you. Everyone has their own tastes and their own preferences when it comes to interior design. It's up to you to make the right changes as soon as you can. The previous owner might have had very different tastes to you, so it's not surprising that you don't really feel at home there yet.

Hang Personal Photos or Art You Love

Hanging personal photos on your walls is a great way of making your home feel like it belongs to you. When the walls are blank and there are no photos of your family in the home, it can feel a little too much like a showroom rather than a personal space that you want to spend time in. So, invest in some picture frames and dig out your very best family photos and find places to display them. The same can apply to the art you love; if it has a personal meaning to you, it belongs in your home.

Get Basic Repairs Taken Care Of

When you move into a new place, it's not always realistic to expect everything to be perfect because that's never really how it plays out. There are always those little problems that need to be addressed and small fixes that need to be carried out. The sooner you take care of those things, the quicker you'll be able to feel settled and relaxed in your home. Those annoyances won't distract you or put you off feeling at ease in the home.

    Display Your Collections

If you have a collection, no matter what it is, you should find a place to display it in your new home. When there's something that's important to you, it's deserving of a key place in your home. It's another thing that'll make the home feel yours and a way of putting your stamp on it. Those little familiarities make a big difference, so this should be one of the first things you put in place as you unpack your possessions.

    Add Your Finishing Touches

Next, you can move onto adding the finishing touches. These are the things that really bring the interior design together and put your final stamp on the place. It's about making it feel complete and less like an empty shell, which is always what a new home is when you first move into it. Of course, the big furniture pieces matter a lot but those little details offer a level of finesse that shouldn't be overlooked either.

    Start Making Memories

And last, but certainly not least, you should focus on creating memories in your home with the rest of your family. Living your lives and making the most of each day is what will help you feel more at home in your new place and that's how the home will start to feel like yours. Over time, you'll find it hard to imagine living anywhere else and that's when you know you've managed to put your stamp on the home.

Your new home might be yours legally, but that doesn't mean it instantly feels like yours. By taking the kinds of steps we've discussed above, you'll be able to put your stamp on the place and settle in much quicker than you would otherwise be able to. So, make the most of these ideas and make your new home truly yours.
