Which is the Best Ski Resort In France

    Dec 20, 2025 by Ali · Leave a Comment

France is home to some of the most well-developed ski resorts on the planet, along with the culture and infrastructure to match. There are options to appeal to skiers of every level, and if you're looking to get the most from your trip, you'll need to pick one that's appropriate for your abilities - and your tastes and budget.

    So, what are the options?

Snow-covered landscape with tall pine trees, people skiing, and distant mountains under a clear blue sky.

Val Thorens - Europe's Highest Resort

Being the highest resort on the continent, Val Thorens is perfect for those looking for reliable snowfall, and a long season. There are great beginner slopes, as well as access to the wider Three Valleys skiing area. For those looking for good après-ski, a Val Thorens ski holiday is also ideal .

Chamonix - A Haven for Experienced Skiers

What if you'd prefer a little more of a challenge? Chamonix enjoys a reputation for being a little more fearsome. You'll be able to descend difficult black slopes, surrounded by lush forests and soaring, snow-capped peaks. The resort itself is actually nestled near the base of Mont Blanc, from where you'll be able to take a cable car up to one of several panoramic views. It's thus packed with inspiration, even if you don't intend to do much skiing.

Les Deux Alpes - Great for Families and Beginners

For those in search of an approachable, family-friendly resort, Les Deux Alpes is sure to appeal. It's the most famous resort in the Isère department, and offers more than fifty lifts. There's a welcoming culture, a selection of affordable ski schools, and a series of gentle, beginner-friendly resorts that will help bring you up to speed. Of the ninety-six runs available, more than half qualify as easy - and some are even easier than that!

Courchevel - Luxury and Style in the Alps

Finally, we come to what must be described as the luxury option. There are a number of excellent high-end restaurants, five-star hotels, and boutique shopping experiences to enjoy. You'll also be able to come in from the slope and enjoy some time in a world-class spa.

But just because the resort itself is impressive doesn't mean that the skiing isn't of an accordingly high quality. You can expect to enjoy amazing pistes, which cater to skiers of every level, and are groomed to an extremely high standard throughout the year. Just make sure that you have the budget to get the best from it!
