I absolutely love Italy, it is such a special part of the world. Often it is considered the place for a romantic trip with your other half but I want to tell you that it is so much more than that, and it is also why Italy is the perfect place for a family holiday. I'd definitely encourage you not to shy away from taking your family on holidays that are outside the traditional 'package holiday', you will create so many memories and there is nothing more special than showing your children the world.
Luxury destinations
If you can do a luxury holiday anywhere, you can definitely do it in Italy. Just because it is a family holiday doesn't mean that you have to miss out on all the finer things in life. Italy is full of beautiful hotels and picturesque locations. You can enjoy wonderful Italian food and stay in the best hotels and really enjoy a week or two of luxuriating in Italian style. Don't forget the designer shopping too! Voyage Privé has many high end hotels and holidays to Italy available, all handpicked by their experts so definitely check them out.
Glorious beaches
Visit Sardinia for beautiful turquoise seas and golden sandy beaches. It is located just west of the Italian Peninsular and is often overlooked as a holiday destination. It's perfect for families because it can be lovely and quiet and you can enjoy some lovely time at the beach together, enjoying the beautiful scenery and making sandcastles during the day. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday to focus and bond with your family then a beach holiday like this is a perfect choice.
Venice
Venice sounds like a romantic destination for couples but it is a brilliant place to take your family too. There is so much to see and do there, children will be fascinated to see and hear all about it. A gondola trip or ride on the aqua bus will make the memory of a lifetime for your little ones. I would say that a trip to Venice is best enjoyed by older children so that they will be old enough to appreciate all the architecture and culture that there is to experience.
Rome
I took my children to Rome last year and it was such a fascinating city. There is so much to do, you could spend days there. I loved just walking around and seeing history on every corner. Of course you have to see all the traditional tourist spots such as the Vatican and the Coliseum but there are also so many hidden gems you will find by just wandering around. They have some of the best Italian restaurants down the side streets where you will be able to enjoy authentic pasta, pizza and best of all wine!
An Italian Road Trip
One of my bucket list holidays is to go on an Italian road trip. I would fly in, hire a car and travel down through Italy, staying in hotels along the way. This is a perfect family holiday as you get to see so much of the country and you are keeping it fresh and interesting for the children. Children usually love long car journeys too, as long as they don't get travel sick and you take enough to keep them entertained. The trick is not to have too far between individual destinations so they aren't stuck in the car for too long.
