In these uncertain times, we are all looking for ways to keep us sane and busy. Since it looks like we’re going to be spending a lot of time indoors with not much else to do, it’s time to get our home exactly as we want it with these home makeover ideas! There’s no better time to do a deep spring clean and get things refreshed. Here are some tips to help you get started…
1. Rearrange furniture
For an instant and free refresh, switch up the room’s furniture. A new layout might work from a seasonal point of view, make the fireplace the main feature of the room in winter and reposition pieces in summer depending where the light comes in. Don’t be afraid to introduce or swap furniture from another room for example, the unused wicker chair in the living room might look perfect in your bedroom…
2. Paint your furniture and walls
Whereas redecorating or adding a lick of paint to your walls is an obvious and easy way to brighten your interior but have you considered painting your furniture? Whether you want to refresh old dated cabinets or revamp a tired dresser, a fresh coat of paint will give them and your interior a new lease of life without breaking the bank. Painting the ceilings will also make the room appear bigger, brighter and more inviting…
3. De clutter and organise
Before you even consider any full-on renovations or even touch ups like paint, de cluttering is always the first job. There’s no point in purchasing new furniture, floors and redoing your walls to have the same old clutter lying around. Be ruthless – a modern interior is all about clean spaces and minimalistic décor. If you come from a busy family household, then you’ll know things get dumped all the time, so that clean space will go eventually – keep it as long as you can!
4. Gallery Wall
No matter which room style up the wall space into a gallery of family photos or paintings. This is great if you’re feeling a bit lazy about painting and redecorating. Hang art pieces that range in size and shape for character and dimension and think carefully about frames.
5. Sand down and refinish your wood floor
If you’re lucky enough to have wood flooring in your home, then this is the perfect opportunity to give it a refresh. Although it’s disruptive, we promise you you’ll notice a huge difference. Sanding down and refinishing your wood floor will eradicate and scratches, stains and wear and tear and can often feel like you’ve got a whole new floor! If you’re really wanting to go to town, then purchasing a whole new floor is the obvious way to lighten up your interior. The floor can make or break a room and often it is the first thing you notice, so get it right! If you haven’t quite got the budget for solid wood, then engineered wood gives you the same effects as solid but at a cheaper price and added benefits such as under-floor heating!
