To say that my children were excited at the Connetix tiles delivery is an understatement! Even my 16 year old was interested and set to work making a marble run with her younger siblings.
The Connetix tiles are sturdy blocks with strong magnets to attach them together. They are great for open-ended play and are currently my 4 and 9 year old's favourite toys. My children can be a little rough with toys, especially my 4 year old so I was really pleased to see that they are so sturdy. I can imagine that they will last several years of play and be passed down to new homes in great condition too.
The tiles are made using non-toxic ABS plastic that is BPA, lead and Phthalate free. All tiles are also sealed and riveted for extra safety and the unique bevel design allows Connetix to be strong while creating beautiful clearer refractions.
The durability and high quality of Connetix Tiles ensure they will remain a constant companion as a child's play becomes more sophisticated and suited to children of all ages. What begins as simple constructions or a basic ball run by young children gradually transforms into intricate, engineering-inspired creations as they mature. This seamless transition from simple designs to complex structures showcases how these tiles encourage continual development and innovation on a whole new level.
Connetix Tiles' versatility is a catalyst for this evolving play. The varied shapes and sizes allow for limitless possibilities, inspiring creativity and cognitive development at every stage of a child's growth. Younger children might start with basic shapes, exploring colours and patterns. Connecting the tiles together is great for their hand-eye coordination while an older child could delve into more detailed and intricate designs, refining problem-solving skills and spatial awareness.
We received two sets, the 106 Piece Pastel Ball Run Pack and the 12 Piece Clear Rectangle Pack. Both of these sets together meant that we could create all manner of designs and play ideas. The tiles in the ball run pack are standard tile shapes (squares) and have circle holes in the middle so you can attach the ball run parts and the rectangles in the clear rectangle pack have a solid surface and are in longer pieces which is useful when creating bigger pieces.

The 12 Piece Clear Rectangle Pack retails for ยฃ40.
They can be purchased online at Connetixtiles.com or through many toy shops based in the UK and worldwide. You can search online on their website to find your local stockist.
I love the unique earthy pastel colours in the Pastel range, I think that they make a lovely change to bright colours and the Clear range is really useful for setting up marble runs that you can see through, or for setting up a display or creation with a winter theme - it can be set up to look like ice!
The educational benefits persist and expand as the child interacts with Connetix Tiles. From learning about basic shapes and colours to exploring principles of magnetism and structural engineering and mathematical concepts, these tiles provide a rich learning environment that adapts to the child's expanding knowledge base and curiosity.
I love that there is room for expansion in terms of introducing more shapes or themed expansion packs. Your child can really build up an amazing collection which can be added to all the time, further increasing their creative possibilities. It's also a great open-ended toy gift idea as you can suggest to friends and family that they buy creative packs, a variety of shapes, or different colours as a present you know will be appreciated and well used.
The beauty of Connetix Tiles is that you can provide your child with a tub of them and they can set about exploring and creating themselves, no adult input required, unless of course you want to! There are so many ways that these tiles can be played with but below we have suggested four engaging play ideas that utilise the versatile Connetix Tiles.
Magnetic Mosaics
Create beautiful mosaic designs using the translucent Connetix Tiles. Lay out a base plate or a flat surface and encourage your child to arrange the tiles to form different patterns, shapes, or even replicate famous artworks. This activity not only stimulates creativity but also enhances fine motor skills and colour recognition. Challenge them to recreate a specific image or let their imagination run wild - there are endless possibilities!
Architectural Marvels
Challenge your child to construct big castles, elaborate buildings, tall towers, bridges, or even entire cities using Connetix Tiles magnetic squares and shapes. Encourage them to experiment with different architectural designs, explore stability, and learn about balance and structural integrity. The magnet strength means that they will be able to create some really impressive structures that stay stable. This activity fosters spatial awareness, problem-solving, and introduces basic engineering concepts in a fun and interactive manner.
Marble Runs and Mazes
Design and build intricate ball runs or mazes using Connetix Magnetic Tiles. Incorporate ramps, tunnels, twists, and turns to create a thrilling journey for marbles or small balls. Experiment with gravity, velocity, and angles to understand how the balls move in different ways through the course. This activity promotes critical thinking, experimentation, and understanding of cause and effect. The stronger magnets ensure that the ball run is sturdy enough for unstructured play and my little ones have already created many different rainbow ball run creations. If you want your ball run to be even sturdier consider investing in some large squares or base plates which will help if your child has a more complicated creation planned.
Interactive Storytelling and Pretend Play
Encourage imaginative play by integrating Connetix Magnetic Tiles into storytelling sessions. Create scenes or props for storytelling by building castles, spaceships, forests, or any setting that complements the narrative. Use figurines or stuffed animals to bring the stories to life within the constructed environments. This activity enhances creativity, narrative skills, and encourages role-playing as well as fostering important social skills when playing with friends.
These play ideas not only harness the creative potential of Connetix Tiles but also provide opportunities for learning and development across various skill sets, making playtime both fun and educational.
In conclusion, Connetix Tiles are not just a magnetic tile toy but a catalyst for a lifelong journey of creativity and learning. The magnetic shapes grow with the child, encouraging imagination, problem-solving, and innovation, making a Connetix fun magnetic construction set a valuable addition to any child's playroom and an investment in their developmental journey.
