Since your home is your castle, you'll want it to look as nice as possible. As easy as that is to say, it could be much more difficult to actually do. After all, there's a lot to look after. At some point, you might want to refresh what your house looks like. Naturally, home design tips will end up being on your mind at some point during this process.

With the plethora of ideas you can choose, you mightn't know where to start. You might also want to change specific things but not know what to replace them with or how to improve them. That's a relatively common feeling; sometimes, you just want an upgrade but not know where you want to go with it.

Thankfully, there are multiple home design tips that you can take advantage of. Some will be much more recommended than others, as they'll have a significant impact on your home. You could have a luxury-looking home on a tight budget, as long as you know what to focus on.

    Top Home Design Options

    Put In Some Art

Artwork is one of the more obvious home design tips out there. It's also one of the more effective. Putting up some paintings or photography can tie the room together. That makes it one of the more cost-effective tips that you can try.

You're not limited just to paintings, however. Sculptures, water fountains, and similar decorations could also be an option. When you're picking these up, you should keep the available space in mind.

Avoid going too large unless you have a significant space to fill. Relatively small items in key places might be all you need.

    Save Space With New Shelves

Your shelves mightn't be the first things you think of when it comes to home design tips. They could have a much more significant impact on your home than you'd expect. If you have a smaller home or apartment, then that's even more true.

Shelves tend to be large and bulky, so they take up much more space than you might want. You can get rid of this by having some shelves installed directly onto your wall. That negates the lower portion of the shelves, so you'll have much more floor space to use.

If you're cutting down on clutter, then this could be one of the first things you consider. You shouldn't have to sacrifice style to accomplish this, however. There are multiple styles that you could choose from. Industrial pipe shelving, for instance, could be recommended for a rustic-looking room.

Regardless of what style or design you're planning for a room, you can find low-space shelving that will fit in and compliment it. They'll also be much more durable than you'd expect, as long as they're properly installed.

    Upsize Your Curtains

Few people think of their curtains when they're thinking about home design tips. Replacing them could be recommended, however. Naturally, different colors and designs can be well recommended, so it's worth taking a look through them.

That isn't the only way that you can experiment with your curtains, however. Instead, try upsizing them. While you shouldn't go too big, having slightly oversized curtains can add to a room and make it feel much more comfortable.

That could focus on the length of the curtains themselves, but you could also focus on the width of the curtain rod. An extra few inches on either side could be all you need.

    Add Some Paint

There's a reason why painting often comes up in interior design. It can make or break the look and feel of a room. If you want a quick and easy refresh, then this should be the first thing you think of. You'd be surprised by how a room can change following a good repaint.

You wouldn't have to stick with the standard colors, however. Matching or contrasting the paint with your furniture will be recommended. That could mean going bright and colorful or quite dark. Having a particular theme with your colors in mind is essential.

That means thinking of the whole room before you start to paint, not just the walls. You can also choose to paint some designs around the room. You could go quite intricate with these designs or keep it relatively simple; if you like it and it complements the room, then go for it.

    Have An Open Plan Floor

Having an open plan floor has been one of the more recommended home design tips for quite some time. That's primarily because of the many benefits it can bring to your home. The largest is that it can improve the flow of your house and make it much easier to clean and get around.

That makes it an ideal option for smaller homes or apartments that might have relatively little space. It's worth noting, however, that you shouldn't under-furnish your apartment. There's a fine line between an open-plan home and one that's relatively empty.

Having oversized furniture could be recommended, especially if you have a few of them. Adding in some appropriately-sized decorations will enhance the effect. Once you're done, your home will have a modern and sleek look.

    Don't Forget The Ceiling

There are multiple home design tips that you can find online. Few mention the ceiling, however. This isn't an area that you should overlook. Though you mightn't actively pay attention to your ceiling, it makes a large impression on a room. You can use this to make a splash for guests.

Naturally, you can hang things from here or even add some nice ceiling fans or accessories for your lights. You should go farther than this by giving it a repaint with some interesting designs or colors. You can match this with the color of your walls or you could opt for some contrast.

If you choose darker colors for the ceiling, you should go with more toned-down options for your furniture and decorations.

    Draw Attention To The Eyesores

Some people might have decorations or furniture that they have a deep personal connection to. It might even be furniture in a rental that you can't get rid of. These mightn't be the most appealing to have in a certain room, however. Instead of hiding it away, you should draw more attention to it and make it a key part of a room.

While you might see something as an eyesore, it can instead be an oddity. With that, you can make it a conversation piece. If there are pipes from an HVAC unit or something similar, you'd typically try to hide them. Give them a paint job to spice things up. Using bold colors and interesting designs could be recommended.

The same approach could be taken with multiple other potential eyesores. Turn them from bad to good with a bit of creative thinking and some effort.

Finishing Up With Your Home Design Tips

Whether you've moved into a new house or looking to improve your current style, home design tips can be more than welcome. Knowing where to start and which ones you should use can be somewhat difficult, however.

That's where your personal style and preferences come into play. Knowing what kind of overall look and feel you want before you start decorating is recommended. With that, you can start planning out your redecorations. Any other home design tips can come secondary to this.

By doing so, you'll be in a much better position to pick up furniture and decorations that complement each other. That'll enhance your home design much better than picking up things as you go.
