How to add personalisation to a new build home

Buying a new home is one of the most exciting moments of your life! It's finally your time to decorate and furnish as you please, with a whole new sense of freedom coming your way.

With a new build home , you get to have a fresh blank canvas, ready and waiting for you to add your own personal touches. This article explains how you can add your own personalisation to a new build home.

    Buying a new build

When you buy a new build property, it's not always available to view as it may not have been built yet. However, this gives you the perfect opportunity to customise your new home and have everything how you like it for when you move in.

You'll get to choose the fixtures and fittings, as well as the colour of the walls and the flooring in each room. As the house will be completely brand-new, it will lack personalisation and character - which is where you come in.

    Adding personalisation inside

There are plenty of ways to add personal touches to your new home's interior, truly transforming it from a house to a home.

Pick the colour theme you'd like throughout your new home and find the correct paint colours to match. Why not add panelling in the living room or master bedroom? It adds a level of depth to each room and can make these stand out from the rest.

Consider the type of furniture you'd like in your new home. Will you channel minimalism, or do you prefer a more bohemian vibe? Do you want to buy new or upcycle the furniture that you currently have?

Create a warm and cosy atmosphere using soft furnishings and hanging personal photos around the house. That way, your new home will be truly yours.

    Don't forget the outside

With all the focus on the inside of the house, it can be easy to forget the outside. If your new build has a garden, you should personalise that too!

Some builds may not have a lawn, but rather just a blank canvas ready for you to play with. If so, start by creating a design plan on how exactly you want your new garden to look.

Perhaps you want to add a lawn and a patio area for alfresco dining in the summer months. Take the time to plan out where you'd like some plants and shrubs to bring your garden to life - you could even create an area for wildlife.

Add some garden furniture, fairy lights and outdoor decorations to bring some quirkiness to your outside space. You'll be the envy of all your guests when they come to visit!
