Monster Jam Review - Cardiff 2019

    May 22, 2019 · Modified: Feb 13, 2025 by Ali · Leave a Comment

Disclosure - we were given tickets to the show and pit party for the purpose of writing this post. All opinions are honest and my own.

Monster Jam Review - Cardiff 2019

It has become something of a yearly tradition that we take the kids to see Monster Jam in Cardiff. You can read about our previous visits here and here. We are now dedicated Monster Jam fans, we know all the monster trucks and really throw ourselves into the energy of the day. The kids all absolutely love it, it appeals to all ages and is a great family day out.

Our day started with the Pit Party. You pay a little extra for Pit Party entry and you can only visit the Pit Party if you have tickets to the main event. (Ticket prices vary per venue). The Pit Party opened at 10 and went on until 1pm and it is the perfect chance to see your favourite Monster Trucks up close. I'd definitely recommend going along, it is quite something to see how huge these trucks are up close - their wheels alone are taller than me! The atmosphere is buzzing and it really gets you into the mood for the show in the afternoon.

If you are a huge Monster Truck fan the Pit Party also provides you with the opportunity to meet and greet the drivers, get their autograph and have your photo taken with them. It's a real must for any fan! You can also buy merchandise such as t-shirts, toys and flags. My little boy's favourite car is El Torro Loco and although he took an El Torro Loco toy with him, he simply had to have a new one! Beware, the merchandise is expensive.

We spent a good hour wandering around the Pit Party and the children went on the bouncy activity course and we headed out and into Cardiff for a spot of lunch before the main event. We chatted over lunch about which Monster Trucks we were going to support and we couldn't wait for the afternoon for the show to start at 3. A lot of people ask is monster jam pit party worth it - I'd say definitely yes, it gets you up close to the trucks and you can meet the drivers - it's a real must for any Monster Trucks fan!

Top tip for the show - take ear defenders ! (affiliate link). If you forget there are sellers selling them on the outskirts of the stadium. The children had ear defenders, including a small pair for the baby and hubby and I wore normal ear plugs which helped with the noise a lot. They clearly worked in Baby N's case as he fell asleep for half of the show!

The show is split into sections, timed racing, two wheeler stunts, freestyle motocross and freestyle monster trucks. Each monster truck is awarded a score after each event and at the very end, the truck with the highest score wins! You can go online and vote on their website as the show is happening to score the monster trucks which is a great interactive element.

Our favourite event is the freestyle monster trucks. As the name suggests, they have a time limit and they can do all sorts of freestyle moves in order to get points.  Our favourite move is the backflip and we were lucky that two of them did just that!
I was a little worried that the amazing Grave Digger would win, as he had an awesome day but luckily for Little Boy El Torro Loco pipped him to the post by a point to win! I had one very happy little boy!

Honestly, just looking at the looks on their little faces in these photos tells you what fun we had! Monster Jam will be in Coventry on June 8th, take a look at the Monster Jam website for more information. We also made a little video of our day - do take a look and you can see some of the stunts for yourself!
Thank you so much to Monster Jam for inviting us to the show, we are now huge fans and are looking forward to the next one already!
