My kids love yoghurt and we spend a fortune on it. But the shop bought yoghurts, especially the ones designed for kids actually contain a tonne of sugar. From now on I am going to be making my own yogurt. Here is the recipe for plain homemade yoghurt, which tastes lovely on its own or add fruit purees / fruit / to jazz it up.
Ingredients
500ml Full fat milk
2 tablespoon Dried Milk Powder
2 tablespoon Natural Yoghurt (this can be saved from the end of the last batch)
Method
Heat the milk in a saucepan until it is just under boiling point. Stir it frequently to make sure that it doesn't burn. When it looks like it is about to boil, gently whisk in the milk powder, stir in the yoghurt and pour into a warm bowl or jug. Cover with clingfilm, wrap in a towel and leave in a warm place overnight. In the morning give it a stir and a taste. The longer you leave it the more tart the taste will be. I prefer mine not so tart so overnight is a good amount of time.
Remember to save two tablespoons from each batch to make the next!
