Ok, so you might not have been searching that hard for them, but we know that deep down inside you’ll be wishing for inspiration that can change your home. If you’ve had the same interior that you’ve had for years, then we just know you’re going to be bored of what you see by now. Once you’ve been looking at the same four walls for a while, all you can pick out is faults that just make you fall out of love with your home. It’s even worse when you go into someone's home who has just had a complete interior overhaul, and you can’t help but notice how modern and great it all looks. Because no matter what you do with your interior decor to change it, or what style you want to go for, having something new is going to make your home look nice and modern. But if you lack that interior design knowledge, it can be hard to know what you can do to each room to ensure you get the best outcome for your home. Lord knows that some people can do more damage than they do good when redecorating or renovating a room! So, if you feel like you’re struggling at the minute, we think you should sit back, relax, and have a read of the interior design tips that we think you need the most.
What Not To Do
So, we want to start with what not to do, because this is the information that we think people will be lacking the most. We’re always so focused on reading articles that tell us what to do, but sticking to the tips in that article doesn’t always happen. People go off course, buy the wrong things, decorate the wrong way, and it all becomes a bit of a mismatch shambles. So we’re going to start with what you shouldn’t do, because if you take anything away from this article, it should be the information in this section. Tip number one is not to go so bold. It’s all well and good having an idea of what might work in your head, but executing it just isn’t always going to go to plan. This usually happens with bright and wacky colours. Sometimes the colours clash, or they just don’t look right with the other objects they’ve been put with, and it can completely ruin the home. If it is colour that your want, we think you should achieve it by setting it off against a white. If white is your main colour, and you have splashes of the bright, such as lime green, it’s going to work so much better than having block colours everywhere.
The second don’t that we most definitely advise you stick to, is don’t overload a room. It can be easy to get carried away with putting in so many of the fabulous things that you see in your local home store, but they just might not go together in your home. Or even worse, the might go together, but you just clutter up a room with the many different things that you’ve been to buy. We think the best advice to follow is one that allows you to be minimalistic. They say that less is more, and if you get it right within your home, this is most definitely going to be true.
Keeping To A Budget
Sticking to a budget is definitely going to be hard if you haven’t changed your interior before. It’s one of the reasons why people go so overboard when going into homeware stores, because everything just looks so great. So that you don’t go bankrupt from changing your interior, focus on the things that you actually need. For a lot of you it will be a new lick of paint, a new rug, or some new accessories. It will often be the most simple of things that can make a big difference to your home. Set yourself a budget, do some online hunting for the things you need, and try and grab yourself a bargain along the way!
The Styles That Are In Trend At The Minute
We just love interior design, and there definitely are a few styles that are in at the minute. One of them that just isn’t budging, is that beautiful silver, grey and white colour scheme. It’s not too bright, not too dark, but it simply makes your room look elegant. All you have to do is make sure you’re not too heavy with one of the colours, and this look is actually pretty easy to achieve. Duck egg is also a lovely colour, especially to have in your living room or bedroom. It goes with so much, and can make a room look so elegant with the right accessories. You might also like to look into the minimalistic look that everyone on Instagram seems to be going for lately. Articles like this can better tell you how to achieve it, because we do think it’s slightly harder to achieve than some of the other looks. You either put too many things in the room so it just doesn’t look minimalistic, or you put too little so that the room just looks bare! But if you get it right, it is one of the most modern looks going at the minute, and it saves you from having that clutter filled home that so many people have!
The Small Additions That Will Add Character
We’re all for saving money, and we think that there are plenty of things that you can put in your home that will add some character, starting with art. Art is one of the most minimalistic, yet beautiful additions that you can put into your home. All you have to do is find something to speaks to you, and that you think will suit the rest of your home! Similarly, you could fill your living room with picture frames full of memories that mean the most to you. Sometimes a nostalgic wall is the best kind, but we’re not trying to suggest you should fill your living room with either. Just a couple of each will be enough! For artwork we would suggest that you’re mindful of how much you’re spending. You don’t need to go to an art gallery to find something that’s top of the range. You could easily go to your local home store and find something beautiful, but pay pennies compared to what you would if you went to an actual art gallery! Finally, we think candles are essential in the home. The warm glow and beautiful smell that they give just makes those cosy winters nights even better. But there are so many different candle holders that you can get which will add a bit of character to your home. They could be themed, or just pretty little tealight holders that you might not have considered getting before. They become sort of an ornament to the room, which is something we love about them!
The Rooms That Need The Most Attention
We think it’s all well and good paying attention to those rooms in your home that people see the most, but what about the rooms that really need your attention. This is where we think that people go wrong the most in life. Every room in your home should count, even the spare room that you barely go in to! If you haven’t changed the decor in there for so long, then why not think about doing a little something to that room. It then makes it the perfect spot for friends to come over, and it won’t feel like the room is just wasting away. One room that could definitely be turned into something cool if you don’t use it at the minute, is the garage. Of course, if you don’t have a garage then this won’t apply to you. But if you do, why not get in touch with a garage conversion company and see if you can get it turned into another room! It could be another bedroom, a bathroom, or just a chill out room separate from the living room. Trust us, this one definitely will add value to your home, and it’ll stop the room from just being unused for years to come!
The Things That Will Add Value
A lot of the things that we’ve spoke about today will add some nice value to your home, but it doesn’t stop there. There are renovations and extensions that you could do all over your home that will add value, you just have to know what is the right thing to make. For example, if you know you have a tiny kitchen, extending the home and renovating it to make it a big one would most definitely increase the value of your home when you come to sell it. A good kitchen is a big selling point of a lot of homes! So it is all about weighing up your options!
