It’s probably the only space in the home that has a lock on the door. A bathroom is a place that receives a lot of footfall throughout the days and weeks in your household. That’s why it often gets a little bit tired and worn more often than other spaces in the home.
If it’s been a while since you updated the space and it could do with an update or two, then this guide has come at the perfect time for you. With plenty of small to large indulgences to update your bathroom space, here are some useful tips to help transform your bathroom in 2023.

Replace your worn-out showerhead
The showerhead offers a flurry of hot water onto the body in the morning or before you go to bed at night. If all you’re getting is a trickle at the moment, chances are you do not have the best shower experience currently.
If you’re overwhelmed with joy when you go to a plush hotel room and the showerhead is ten times better than your own at home, it’s time to get a new one. There are plenty of different showerheads out there but nothing quite beats the rainfall showerhead.
It’s one of those all-encompassing showerheads that will have you spending, at least, an extra ten to fifteen minutes in the shower. Particularly during those cooler months of the year, stepping out of a shower feels like death itself.
A rainfall showerhead is not too much of an indulgence either. You could still incorporate a second showerhead to wash off any body parts that aren’t quite possible to stretch up to the main showerhead itself.
Switch out your hardware with brass
The hardware in your bathroom is much like the hardware in your kitchen. Over time, it can become worn and tired, with the H and C letters to indicate whether you freeze your hands or scold them, which have sadly washed away over time.
Switching out your hardware might be just what your bathroom needs in order to give it a bit of an update and refresh. A great material being used in bathrooms currently is brass. Yes, there’s a bit of an audible groan from a few people but brass despite its effort to clean, is a great way to make your space look indulgent and stylish.
Brass is also a great material for those that want a long-lasting investment into what’s being spent on their bathroom. If you’re going to spend money on your bathroom, the most used space in the home, then you’ll want to invest in the very best. That way, in the long run, you’re likely to do fewer updates and spend less money as a result. What’s not to love?
Install a heated towel rack
Nothing says more luxurious than a heated towel rack. It’s something that can be missed in a home, especially for those that are older in age and have become a little outdated in appearance.
Heated towel racks are a little different from your standard radiator, in that they can heat up your towels quicker and will hold multiple towels instead of just one. With normal radiators, the towel will take up the entire radiator and leave very little exposure to heat the room.
With a heated towel rack, you’ve got the sides heated that will be exposed and create a warmer space. A feature that’s all-important during those colder months of the year as mentioned above.
If you haven’t got a heated towel rack currently and you’ve got a bit of money to spend on bathroom updates, then it’s definitely a recommendation that will be worthwhile.
Add LED to your bathroom mirror
When getting ready in your bathroom, sometimes the lighting options may be limited. For some, it’s just the overhead lights or nothing at all. There are a lot of mirrors nowadays that now have lights installed within them, to illuminate the space further.
More importantly, it provides light for those who may need it for applying makeup, doing their hair, or just staring vacantly into it on a Monday morning before work.
LED lights are a great option to add to your current bathroom mirror. There are some great strip lights that you can get, which go around the mirror itself and are effective in lighting up the space in front of you so you can see yourself in all your glory - whether that’s good or bad.
Invest in some bathroom storage
If space is limited within your bathroom, then investing in storage is well worth doing so. It can be hard to find a space for all of your lotions and potions, so any bathroom surfaces begin to look a little cramped and cluttered.
Bathroom storage whether that’s floating shelves on the walls or some under-the-sink storage cabinets to cram everything in will help make the space look a lot more appealing as a result. It’s something you might not notice until you get it but it’s better to keep your surfaces clear and minimal in what’s put on them. This is especially important in spaces that are smaller.
Incorporate a bit of nature into the space
If you’re looking to add a bit of relaxation to the space, incorporate some nature. It’s incredible what a few plants can do to your mood and to the atmosphere of the space you’re in. Consider carefully what types of plants are best suited for the bathroom. Remember this is a room with a lot of moisture and so it’s going to need to be a plant that loves it.
The snake plant is a good choice, as well as orchids, ferns, and peace lily plants. Experiment with where you put them and the positioning before incorporating them into the space.
Swap out any soft furnishings for some new ones
If you’ve got some towels and bath mats that have seen better days, chuck them out or give them to charity if they’re acceptable. Swapping out your soft furnishings can make all the difference to the feel of the space as well as how it feels for you and your household.
Plush new towels that envelop you and your body is heaven. Having a soft rug on your feet as you step in and out of the shower makes all the difference to the experience.
Regrout any stained grout in between tiles
Grout is something that often stains and breaks off over the years between your tiles. It may be high time to give them a clean and if the cleaning hasn’t removed the grouting, then it’s time to replace it. Regrouting is something that’s easy enough, even if you don’t have the experience.
There are lots of how-to’s and videos online to look at but make sure you have all the relevant tools before you get started.
Add in a bidet toilet
If you’re looking to add something extra to the space to help with personal hygiene, why not a new toilet with a bidet? Yes, you can now get combined bidet toilets that give you the best of both worlds. Over time, the toilet itself can become a little unpleasant to look at. If that sounds like your toilet, why not get it switched out with a new one?
Making these useful updates to your bathroom space will make all the difference in 2023. Look at what needs the investment and what small changes can be made to transform the space into something different this year.
