It’s September which means that soup season is approaching. You may still be dealing with the last vestiges of summer, with heat from the sun struggling to get through the garden these days, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t start prepping for autumn. Soup season is one of the best food seasons throughout the year.
Let’s be honest – who doesn’t love deliciously hot and thick soup with chunky buttered bread dipped into it? Only heathens don’t like it. Whether you like your soup hot or cold, meaty with beef or veggie with roasted butternut squash, there are plenty of ways that you can enjoy your soup this season. If you’re still on the fence about soup, we’ve got so many reasons below as to why you really should learn to love it.
- It tastes so good. There are some soups out there that really don’t taste good but it all depends on what you prefer to eat. For example, if you are not a fan of pumpkin the chances are high you’re not going to try pumpkin soup and enjoy it, right? Soup can be gross if you haven’t used the right spices but that’s the trick is learning to blend the right herbs and spices with the right flavors of vegetables and meat in some broth. Some people have to slow cook the vegetables and meat together all day and then whizz it up in a blender so that it’s the most delicious soup.
- It can be so healthy. Of course, not all soups are healthy. Calories still count even when they are blended into super oblivion, so make sure that you’re using vegetables and meat that are healthier in calories than others. You can make soup with pretty much any available vegetable and meats, and soup can be very good for your health. Add spices and herbs to enhance the flavor of the vegetables you’re not usually keen on and you’ll see such a big difference in taste.
- It is superfast to cook. Steaming up all your veggies before blending them makes eating soup a pleasure. You can come home from a long day at work when it’s cold outside, and have your soup cooked within 5 to 10 minutes. This is especially a good thing to do if you have a vegetable stew heating all day long; you can blitz it, blend it and dunk it with some bread.
- There are so many options. From tomato soup to creamy soups, meaty soups to green soups from pea and ham soup to broccoli soups and more – whatever you can think of there’s a soup for it. There is soup that can be chunky with vegetables that are not quite blended down, and you can even have soup with six chunks of meat in it but the soup itself is vegetable. There are options – no matter what, there are always options.
- It’s super easy to clean. Soup is quite easy to eat because there are only a few dishes that you used to cook it. You don’t need so many ingredients or spices or equipment to make just soup.
