We love Halloween in our house and every year we have a little party with some friends where we eat lots of Halloween themed food before heading out trick or treating.
Every year we scour PinterestΒ for some new ideas of things to make and this year was no different! We decided on a main and a couple of sweet treats for afterwards and set about making our Halloween feast!
As a main meal we chose Monster Spaghetti! This was really easy to make, we used our regular Quorn bolognese on top of linguine pasta and decorated it with mozarella, black olives and tomato puree. It was really fun to make the face on top and it looked fabulous as a centrepiece for dinner.
Β Once the healthy part of the feast is over, the girls can't wait to get stuck into the sweet treats! We made three different types and they made them themselves with little help from me! In fact I was told that I was rubbish at making them! They were right actually and I had to hide my ones at the back in these photos!
First up are these vampire donuts! These took minutes to make as we used shop bought iced donuts, popped some plastic fangs in the middle to make a mouth (fangs 10p each from Wilkinsons!) and glued chocolate drop eyes on with white icing. So simple and yet I think these are really effective! And the children loved that they could play with the fangs afterwards. These would be perfect as little parting gifts from a party we hosted (toy and treat in one!).
The girls absolutely loved making the next treat - gingerbread skeletons and vampires! Again we kept it simple by using store bought gingerbread men - these ones are the mini versions. They then just decorated them with writing icing. They even had a little production line going on!
Last up are these funny marshmallow eyeballs. Again, easy enough for the kids to make themselves, we just stuck a smartie on top of a marshmallow using icing and decorated the sides of the marshmallow with red writing icing, and popped a black dot of writing icing in the middle of the smartie to make it look like an eye. I think they look really effective and quite enticing when put in a bowl on the table because of the bright colours!
When everyone goes home, the house is tidied and back to normal I treat myself to a lounge on the sofa with a magazine and a suitably themed warm drink like this pumpkin spiced hot chocolate. Heaven in a mug! Paired with the last gingerbread skeleton of course!
You may have noticed throughout this post, that I am using some beautiful tablewear to display our creations. They are all from Denbyβs latest range, Natural Canvas. It is aΒ contemporary collection inspired by the brandβs rich heritage and passion for quality craftsmanship. The warm, neutral hue and subtle Chevron pattern means Natural Canvas can work for a modern or classic setting. The range includes everything from a 16-piece Dinner Set, perfect for traditional dinner parties, through to Serving Bowls and Platters, designed for a more casual approach to Christmas entertaining at home.
I absolutely love the collection - not only does it go perfectly with my new kitchen but it has a modern yet classic look that I love. I'd be proud to serve food in the takeaway set like I have here and the chunky mugs are perfect for warm drinks like I served above. I really like how the design is simple and clean and doesn't detract at all from the food on display - the food blogger's dream! I'll definitely be using this again and again, the quality is superb and I can't wait to serve our Christmas food on such beautiful tablewear.
A big thank you to Denby Pottery for providing me with the tablewear to display our Halloween creations!
