Out this week A Year of Nature Craft and Play is a brand-new activity book written by Becky Goddard-Hill and Catherine Hughes and published by Harper Collins.

It contains over 50 seasonal crafts, gardening projects, games, art and science activities for children aged 7+ and their families that are fun and eco-friendly.
As a family we love getting outside, playing in nature and we love doing craft activities too. Sometimes it can be difficult to think of new and different ideas and this is why I love this book - just open it up and you have a new activity idea for each week.
The book is organised seasonally so it's easy to find an appropriate activity for the seasons and weather. I'm particularly looking forward to making our Halloween pumpkins this year into bird seed feeders once we have finished with them.
Everything that you need is set out clearly in the book and I'm very pleased to see that you don't need any unusual equipment - just things that you might have around the house or find outside, which is great for budget conscious families and the eco conscious.
I'm planning on keeping my youngest home until he starts reception and I know that we will love working through all of the activities in this book together, and I'm sure my older children will love getting stuck in too. Every craft or activity idea is accompanied with a good description and some extra discussion and learning points so you can approach it at the level that your child is at, making the activities suitable for children of all ages - which is appreciated by someone like me with 4 children of different ages!
