I love Christmas and I can't wait for it this year. We've all been working so hard I'm really looking forward to a break and spending some time with the family. One of my favourite things about Christmas is decorating our home so that it is nice and cosy and festive for the holiday season. We often have friends and family over so I like to make sure that we have enough seating and chairs for the table, some nice tablewear and other bits for the house like nice bedding for the guest bedroom.
I'm a terrible spender at Christmas, I use it as an opportunity to buy things we have been putting off or I think of as a bit of a luxury. Christmas is a time to splash out and I definitely do that!
It's our tradition to decorate the house on the first weekend in December. It's my husband's birthday on the 7th so we always have the house decorated by then. I love a classic look, nothing over the top but I do like to drape fairy lights wherever I can!
We always get a real Christmas tree - there is something about the smell that makes the house feel even more Christmassy! It's one of our little traditions going to pick it up - as you can imagine I am quite fussy about the shape and my husband believes the bigger the better when it comes to trees so we usually get a huge tree! Since we moved into a bigger house we can't fit the tree in the car anymore so we go and pick it and have it delivered.
Another one of our traditions is that the children get a new decoration for the tree every year. They love getting all the decorations out each year and remembering which are theirs. They love choosing a pride of place spot for theirs. I will admit that I have a colour theme for the tree every year so I do try to encourage decorations that fit the theme! We always play Christmas songs and eat Christmas biscuits while we are decorating - it's one of my favourite days!
On Christmas Eve we always go to the Church crib service then out for a nice relaxed dinner in a local cafe before settling down at home to open our Christmas Eve bags, hang up the stockings and read The Night Before Christmas before settling down to an early night before the big day.
I thought I would put together a little wishlist of things I want to buy to fill our home with festive cheer again thing year and set us up properly for the holiday season.
This year I want to buy some new dinnerware for Christmas. Our current dinner set is well worn and quite a few pieces are chipped. I love this gold rimmed set, and a bonus is that it comes with beautiful gold coloured cutlery! 36 Piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 4 £70.99
