Here in Wales everybody loves a good pasty and my hubby is a big fan of the ones his grandmother makes. Unfortunately for him I am not so good at traditional pasty making. Despite this I haven't let him down as I have devised a devious cheat pasty making recipe!!
Simply buy the pre-made puff pastry - ideally the pre-rolled stuff. Cut this into rectangles as a little more than twice as big as the pasties that you want.
For the filling you can use anything - chicken curry from a tin, homemade pasty filling, ratatouille with cheese or as I did for us veggies - tinned bombay potatoes. Simply place a blob of your filling into the middle of your pastry rectangle and fold over the pastry until it is 'pasty' shaped. I just did simple rectangles. Squash the sides and edges down with a fork for a nice crimped look. Brush with milk or egg wash and place on a lined baking tray.
Cook in a moderate oven for about 20-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and the middle is hot. Homemade pasties, assembled from shop bought ingredients - and no one would know 😉
