Spring is in the air, and it's time to refresh your home after a long winter! It's the perfect opportunity to start anew, get rid of any unwanted clutter, and give your space a deep clean. To help you get started, here are ten essentials thing you should clean this spring.

    1.   Clean the gutters

When leaves and debris clog your gutters, water cannot flow freely through them. Instead, it can back up onto your roof and cause damage or even leaks in your home. Additionally, clogged gutters can become breeding grounds for pests such as mosquitoes or rodents.

Cleaning the gutters is an important part of maintaining any home. Luckily, there are many tools available to make this job easier. Consider investing in gutter guards or hiring a professional if you're uncomfortable with heights.

    2.   Wash the windows

One essential chore that we often overlook is washing the windows. This may seem like a trivial task, but clean windows can make a significant difference in the appearance of your home.

Not only do clean windows let in more natural light, but they also improve your view of the outdoors. Say goodbye to streaks and smudges by using a squeegee and microfiber cloth to wipe down each windowpane thoroughly.

You may want to consider hiring a professional to get the job done correctly. The average window cleaning cost is around £10 to £25.

    3.   Get rid of any unwanted clutter

Spring is the ideal time to get rid of any unwanted clutter that has accumulated in your home over the winter months. Start by going through each room in your house and identifying items that you no longer need or use. This could include old clothes, books, magazines, or other household items that are just taking up space.

Once you've identified the items you want to get rid of, consider giving some to friends and family or donating them to a local charity. Not only will this help reduce waste and benefit others, but it will also give you more space within the house.

    4.   Donate clothes you no longer wear

With the arrival of spring, it's time to clean out your closet and get rid of those clothes you no longer wear. Donating clothes can be a great way to give back to your community and help those who are less fortunate. It's also an opportunity to reduce waste by giving your clothes a second life instead of sending them to landfill.

Before donating, make sure that the items you're giving away are still in good condition. Clothes with holes or stains might not be suitable for donation but could still be recycled into other products.

    5.   Vacuum and shampoo the carpets

Before cleaning your carpet, start by removing any furniture or objects on the carpeted areas that you plan to clean. This will allow for better access and more thorough cleaning. Next, vacuum the entire area to remove loose debris, dust, and pet hair.

Once you are done vacuuming, it’s time to shampoo your carpets using a specialised cleaner. Make sure you read the instructions carefully before applying the product. You can either use a professional carpet cleaner or rent one from a local hardware store.

After completing this process - let your carpet dry out completely before moving back furniture or walking around on these floors again.

    6.   Wash all of the bedding

When it comes to spring cleaning, washing all of your bedding is an essential task that can make a big difference in your home's overall cleanliness and freshness.

To start this process, remove all the bedding from your beds and wash them in hot water with laundry detergent. This will kill any bacteria or germs on the fabric. You can also add a cup of vinegar or baking soda to help deodorise and brighten the colors.

    7.   Clean out the fridge and freezer

One of the most important things to clean this spring is your fridge and freezer. It's easy for old, forgotten food to pile up, leading to unpleasant odours and potential health hazards.

Start by removing everything from your fridge and freezer. Check expiration dates on all items - if something is outdated, toss it out immediately. Wipe down shelves with warm soapy water or a natural cleaner. Don't forget about the door seals - they can collect crumbs and grime over time.

For the freezer, take out any ice trays or bins that are removable and wash them separately. If you have a lot of frost build-up in your freezer walls, consider defrosting before cleaning.

    8.   Clean your oven

Maintaining a clean oven is crucial for ensuring the longevity of your appliance and preventing any harmful build-up.

Using a high-quality cleaning solution will ensure that even the toughest grease stains are removed from every nook and cranny. It's important to turn off all heat sources before cleaning to avoid any potential hazards.

Next, remove all removable parts, such as racks and trays, so that they can also be thoroughly cleaned. Once all parts are clean, rinse them thoroughly in warm water to remove any residue left behind by the cleaner.

    9.   Rinse the washing machine

To start cleaning your washing machine effectively, begin by removing any items from the drum before pouring in two cups of white vinegar mixed with hot water - this helps break down mineral build-up within the unit. Run a complete cycle on high heat with no clothes inside before wiping down all surfaces with a damp cloth soaked in warm soapy water.

Always read manufacturer guidelines for specific instructions on how frequently you should clean your washing machine thoroughly. Depending on the usage or hardness of local water, some machines may need more attention than others.

    10.   Dust off all of the surfaces

When dusting off the surfaces in your home, you'll need a microfiber cloth or a feather duster. Microfiber cloths are excellent at capturing dust particles without spreading them around like traditional cloths tend to do.

Begin by moving any objects off the surface before wiping them down with your chosen tool. Be sure to get into all crevices and corners where dust tends to settle.
