Who doesn't like a quiet night in for Valentines day? I'm happy with a takeaway or a meal deal and a good romantic comedy film on TV, snuggled up with a glass of Prosecco under a blanket! If that's your idea of a perfect Valentine's Day then read on for my list of the best romantic movies on Netflix.
Happy Valentines Day everyone! Do you celebrate in your house? Since the arrival of our middle daughter on the 15th February it's meant that Valentines Day has been a bit of a dud for us! I don't really like to go out on Valentines Day, we usually cook a meal and cosy up and watch a good romantic movie together before getting everything ready for our birthday girl.
Once upon a time we used to pop out to the video rental shop to choose a film but now we have Netflix we don't even have to leave the house which is brilliant, especially in this weather! The world has gone full swing and now instead of spending hours browsing in the video store, we spend ages browsing Netflix! If you aren't familiar with Netflix, it is a TV show and movie streaming service which starts from ยฃ6.99 a month. If you watch one movie a month it is cheaper to watch it through Netflix than it is to buy the disc. So if you are looking for some inspiration on what to watch on Netflix this Valentine's Day here are some gems.

P.S I Love You
This is an absolute classic and although you will probably have seen it lots of times P.S I Love You is a great choice, even though it is a bit of a tear-jerker! Based on the bestselling book by Celia Ahern, the story follows a widow who loses her husband to a brain tumour, and after his death she finds a series of letters he wrote to get her through the aftermath and grieving process.
Fifty Shades of Grey
You would have had to be born under a rock not to have heard of this film series! The first film is available on Netflix and it is a great choice for watching at home on Valentine's day - especially if you want to encourage a little action in the bedroom! Again, this is based on a bestselling book, Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James.
Dirty Dancing
Another great film, and a classic to boot, definitely one for cosying up and getting in on the action afterwards! The story follows Baby who has a wild and unexpected sexual awakening with 'bad boy' Jonny which leads to true love.
Dear John
A romance centred around love letters to each other, it doesn't get more romantic does it! I wish people still wrote letters! This film shows us that love can transcend the circumstances of our lives and that if you really love someone and are the perfect match, you can still let them go and that you can love all over again.
He's Just Not That Into You
If comedy is more your thing on Valentines Day then this film will tick your box and a great choice for a Valentine's evening with best friends. Watch as a series of Baltimore resident's lives overlap as they try to figure out the differences between men and women and how to understand the opposite sex. A great Netflix comedy for the season of love, even if you are living the single life at the moment.
To All The Boys I Have Loved Before
A great valentine's day movie choice for teens, this follows the main character Lara Jean suffer the formidable embarrassment of having her love letters sent to 5 of her crushes without her knowing. High school is not quite the same after that! Again, this is based on the book by Jenny Han, and if you are a fan of the movie and book - there are more in the series! Lara Jean might be the youngest person I have watched in a Valentines movie but this is real world authentic and very relatable for teens.
She's All That
Another great option for teenagers and adults alike. A famous adaptation of Taming of The Shrew by William Shakespeare, high school class president Zach makes a bet with his friends that he can turn a geeky girl into prom queen. This is popular on the Netflix streaming platform for a reason, and although it might not be love at first sight, it turns out to be the real thing.
Just Go with It
I haven't seen this one yet but I am a fan of Jennifer Anniston in romance movies and Adam Sandler is hilarious so this one looks promising. A single plastic surgeon who always pretends to be married finally finds 'the one' and has to enlist his PA to pretend to be his soon to be ex-wife! I love to find a Netflix film that I haven't watched so I'll be looking forward to watching this.
Holidate
A Christmas themed movie that works well for Valentine's day too (the best of both worlds!) this is a relatively new film to Netflix. We see two single strangers agree to be each other's dates for important occasions throughout the year, with no romantic commitment involved. Can you see where this is headed?! One of the best romantic comedies I have seen in a while.
About Time
Finally, this film is so emotional, it makes me cry every time I watch it. There are some serious lessons to be learned from this. A man finds out that he can travel back through time and he decides to go and win the girl of his dreams. A wonderful life follows. Ahhhh - it really is the perfect movie for Valentines day and shows the true spirit of love.
So I hope that will give you some inspiration and that you have a great Valentines Day evening with your loved ones.
