Anyone who's ever had to move – even if it was your own choice to do so – knows it's a stressful, unpleasant process that you'll wish you never had to go through in the first place. It may not be the most enjoyable thing to do, but it doesn't have to be stressful. Make it easier on yourself and the people assisting you by planning ahead and making sure the actual move itself goes as easily as possible. This will allow you to settle in and begin to feel at home in your new place. Let me show you how.

Start Packing Early
You can begin packing as soon as you know you're going to move – possibly even as soon as you decide it's time to place your house on the market or notify your landlord that you won't be renewing your lease. You might believe there is little to do, but packing your whole house will always take longer than you expect, and if you leave it to the last second, you will undoubtedly get stressed, making the process even longer.
Begin by packing the items you won't need from now until the move, such as the bulk of your clothes, books, extra bedding, decorations, toys, and jewellery. Keep just the necessities unpacked so that you don't have to do much closer to moving day.
Don't forget to mark the boxes, so you know what's inside; by the time you move, you'll have forgotten, which may make unpacking a time-consuming task.
Throw Things Out
When you're packing, you have the ideal chance to get rid of items you'll never use. It's pointless to pack things just to unpack them at your new house and wonder why you took them with you. If you start early, as we advised, you should have plenty of time to take a load of garbage to the landfill or arrange to sell it at a garage sale or online if you prefer.
Get Your Paperwork In Place
When you purchase or rent a new property, you will require a variety of documentation, including:
- Identification, such as a passport, driver's licence, or national insurance number
- Pay slips
- References
You should also make sure that your life insurance is up to date, particularly if you are purchasing a home since this is sometimes a condition of the sale. If you need to renew your insurance or if you don't have any yet, search for a life insurance policy that you could match to your mortgage. That way, you'll know it will be taken care of if you die.
Get Help
If you attempt to do it yourself, it will always be a lot more stressful. Hire a removals firm if possible; some will even pack for you. If this is out of your price range, seek the assistance of friends and relatives. The task will be completed faster, and you will be out of your previous home and into your new one before you get very stressed and the whole process begins to fall apart.
