Do you have a retirement plan in place? I don't. As a self-employed work at home mum planning for my retirement is not as easy as taking out a workplace pension. I have to research the options - how much should I pay in, what provider do I use? Does the government pay in any extra? Are there tax benefits?
To be honest there are so many questions to answer I have completely put off looking into it. Which is why Skipton's new Retiresavvy Portal is such a great idea. It contains all the information you need on retirement planning, written in a clear, engaging way that makes it easy for the lay-person to understand.
The site is easy to navigate and has clearly defined sections containing everything you need to know. Particularly relevant for me were sections on pensions for the self-employed and pensions - a mother's view.
There are also sections with advice for people who are already retired and a forum that you can sign up to and discuss anything pension and retirement related with others.
Best of all is the great jargon buster - I for one know that I am totally confused by technical jargon and this really helped me to decipher some terms I had no clue of before. I mean I had heard the word annuity before of course, but had no idea what it actually meant!!
I'd definitely recommend having a look at Retiresavvy - get learning about pensions and retirement and set yourself up for a bright future. I'll be doing something about setting up a pension in the very near future.
I was asked to review retiresavvy.skipton.co.uk by Skipton and the Mumsnet Bloggers Network. All views are my own. I was entered into a prize draw to win vouchers as a token of thanks for blogging.
