My eldest loves theme parks and funfairs, anything with a fast scary ride and she's there! Luckily hubby likes all that kind of stuff too so he's always raring to take her! Last weekend we treated them both by heading off to Oakwood Theme Park in Pembrokeshire for a fun day out!
We last visited Oakwood a couple of years ago and it was a little run down but I'm pleased to report that they have done lots of work to the place and it's now nice and bright with lots of flowers everywhere and even new rides! They have a Roald Dahl area and a new ride Flight of The Giant Peach which is now open I believe (sadly it wasn't when we visited which is a shame as I'd have love to have told you about it).
We got there quite late (about 1 o'clock) and it was quite quiet which was lovely as we didn't have to queue long for any rides. It's worth noting that they stagger the opening times of the water rides so take a look at the noticeboards when you go in so you don't miss out. Bean absolutely loved everything she went on and as she is now 140cm she is tall enough to go on it all.
There was also lots to do for Little Miss J (6) and Little Boy (3). Little boy rode the Bob Sleigh and lots of the smaller rides and Little Miss J really enjoyed the boat ride - as did I because it was the one ride we could all go on together which was nice.
Little Miss J also loved the small rides in the smaller play area. This area is a little more run down and the rides are quiet so there is one attendant for them all but he was very happy to open them all up for us to have a go on and Little Miss J relished being able to go on all the rides she wanted.
The Neverland area was lovely and the children enjoyed playing on the slides there and having a go on the rides. The walk through part is really special too. Definitely not a part to miss if you are there for the day.
There is also an indoor arcade area with your usual arcade games and a brilliant soft play area too so there was plenty to do in all weather.
We didn't eat in the park as we took a picnic but we did buy some ice cream and drinks which were priced as you would expect for a theme park, a little on the expensive side, but not ridiculously so. To keep costs down I'd definitely take your own food as there were plenty of places to sit and eat a picnic.
Overall we had a lovely day there and would definitely visit again. It has improved a lot since we visited last, and although there are small areas that still need improvement we had a wonderful day out, I couldn't really say a bad word about the place. We'd certainly visit again!
Take a look at Oakwood's website as they have special offers on and special events too like After Dark and Spooktacular events which look like lots of fun!
We made a little vlog of our day at Oakwood which you might like to watch to get a real feel for the place...

My memory was Oakwood this year - with us living on the doorstep, we visit often. Me and my niece were on Bounce, when it stalled half way up and I almost had a heart-attack! I let out a weird shriek, because we knew this wasn't suppose to happen and my niece started laughing hysterically!
