As a busy mum juggling family life, keeping the laundry under control is always a bit of a mission. With four kids and a household thatโs constantly on the go, it sometimes feels like the laundry pile in the laundry room is never-ending. Over the years, Iโve tried every laundry detergent under the sun, from traditional liquid detergents to detergent pods. But recently, we decided to make a shift toward more eco-friendly options, for the sake of our planet and also our health. Thatโs when we came across Green Sheets laundry detergent from The Green Company. Little did we know, this small change would make such a big difference, not just to our laundry routine but to how we felt about the environmental impact of it too.

We actually started using Green Sheets before I was contacted by the brand to work with them. Iโd been looking for a more sustainable alternative that worked just as well as the mainstream brands without all the plastic waste, with a nice, fresh scent and one that also worked on tough stains. Green Sheets seemed like the perfect fit. Now that Iโve had the chance to partner with them in this laundry sheets review, Iโm excited to share our familyโs experience with this eco-friendly laundry detergent and why weโve stuck with it.
What Are Green Sheets?
Green Sheets areย lightweight, pre-measured detergent strips that dissolve in water, leaving no residue. They come in cardboard packaging, which is a win-win for anyone trying to cut down on single-use plastic. When I first saw them, I wondered if they could really replace the heavy jugs of traditional laundry detergent, but the more I used them, the more I realised that not only do they work just as well, but theyโre far more convenient. We now have them delivered to our door on a subscription basis, it is really easy to order more or less should you run out or have too many. So I don't need to worry about adding laundry detergent to my shopping list and it is one less thing to carry.ย
One of the great things about Green Sheets is that you can try 4 sheets for only 95p. Itโs a brilliant, low-cost way to see if they suit your laundry routine. So if you're not sure if they are up to the stain removal needs of your family, or whether they will irritate your skin or you will like the scent, this is a great way to try them without spending a fortune.ย
How We Use Green Sheets in Our Family
In a household like ours, with kids ranging from a 5 year old to teenager, laundry is part of the daily grind, I run at least 3 loads of laundry a day! Itโs not just about keeping clothes cleanโitโs about handling everything from muddy school uniforms to sticky, food-covered outfits. With Green Sheets, the process is so much simpler than measuring out liquid detergent or dealing with detergent pods that sometimes donโt fully dissolve. Hereโs how weโve worked them into our laundry routine:
1. Place the sheet in the drum: For an average load of laundry, I just pop a single Green Sheet into the washing machine drum. For a smaller load, I tear the sheet in half, and if Iโve got a bigger or particularly dirty load (which happens often!), Iโll use a full sheet or even two. We have a larger drum washing machine so can fit more in, but is really easy to throw an extra laundry sheet into the wash at the same time - no measuring needed!ย
2. Load the clothes: Once the sheetโs in, I load up the machine. What I love is that these sheets dissolve quickly in both cold and warm water, so I donโt need to worry about leftover bits of detergent in my washing machine or on our clothes. I literally have only once found a half dissolved laundry sheet and that was because I put it in after loading the clothes and it didn't get caught up in the water properly. I find them much more reliable than using washing pods and the benefits over using liquid detergent are great - no more dirty detergent dispenser to clean out!ย
3. Set the wash cycle: Green Sheets work well across all types of wash cycles, whether Iโm doing a quick cold-water wash or a more intensive warm-water clean for those tougher stains.
In our family, we tend to use cold water most oftenโit's more energy-efficient, and Green Sheets are designed to work in both cold and warm water, which is great. It also means theyโre suitable for fabrics that need gentler care, like my daughter's sensitive-skin-friendly school clothes.
What Do They Smell Like?
Now, letโs talk about the smell. Iโll admit I was initially worried about switching from traditional liquid detergents because I love that freshly washed laundry scent. But Green Sheets have this light, clean smell that doesnโt overpower but leaves clothes smelling fresh and pleasant. Itโs particularly great for anyone with sensitive skin, like our youngest child, who sometimes reacts to strong fragrances in laundry detergents.
The subtle scent is perfect for our family because it gives that feeling of clean laundry without the heavy perfume that often comes with traditional detergent brands. In fact, we were on holiday recently and I forgot to take the laundry sheets with us, silly really as they are SO easy to pack in your suitcase - no worrying about leaks, weight limits or taking up too much space etc! As I had forgotten the green sheets, I used regular laundry detergent and was totally overwhelmed by the artificial chemical smell. It was actually really strong and off-putting so I am a firm green sheets convert smell wise.
Do They Actually Clean Well?
The big question with any detergent is, does it work? With a household of six, including two very active boys, we put Green Sheets to the test on all kinds of stains. From greasy food marks and olive oil stains to mud and body oils, our clothes see it all. I was pleasantly surprised at how effective these little sheets are. Whether Iโm washing my husband's work shirts or my sonโs muddy football kit, Green Sheets tackle the dirt just as well as any detergent weโve used in the past. Because I'm becoming more and more eco-conscious I don't use a separate stain removal product and I haven't run into any issues with clothes ruined from stains yet.
For everyday dirt and light stains, one sheet is enough, but for the tougher stains I find adding an extra sheet or pretreating the area with a little washing up liquid before the wash helps. They also seem to work well in hard water, which is a bonus since we live in an area with high mineral content in the water supply. I also like to line-dry our clothes which helps with removing any stubborn stains too, without the need for a separate stain remover. Line drying also reduces tumble dryer use and there is no need for dryer sheets, which are often full of plastics and chemicals that we really don't need near our bodies or in our environment.
One thing I hadn't tried before working with The Green Company is their fabric conditioner sheets. We have discovered that theyโre another fantastic product. These sheets are added straight to the wash. They help soften clothes and reduce static, and theyโve really made a difference in how our laundry feels. I don't feel in all honestly that they are essential but they are a lovely extra.ย
Why Green Sheets Are Better for the Environment
One of the main reasons we switched to Green Sheets was their environmental impact. I felt guilty every time I threw away yet another plastic bottle of liquid detergent. Weโre trying to make greener choices as a family, and Green Sheets are part of that journey. The packaging is recyclable, which means thereโs no more contributing to the endless pile of plastic waste from laundry detergent jugs. There are also no micro-plastics to worry about and of course as they are light-weight, they are significantly cheaper to transport than heavy plastic packaging you usually find laundry detergent or pod detergents being transported in.
By switching to Green Sheets, weโre helping to reduce the carbon footprint of our laundry routine. This detergent is also carbon neutral, which means that the emissions involved in producing and shipping the sheets are offset. Knowing that weโre using a product thatโs more sustainable and eco-friendly is important to us, especially when it comes to teaching the kids about making environmentally conscious choices.
One of the big attractions for me to switching to Green Sheets is their minimal ingredient list. All ingredients are listed on the website and also there is a detailed description of each ingredient and it's purpose. I am happy to see a company being so open about it's ingredients and it really helps to have it explained clearly on the website, rather than getting confused reading chemical names on the backs of packets in the laundry aisle at the supermarket. There is also a fragrance free option for those people who are sensitive to fragrances. This wasn't a variety I had tried before but I was pleasantly surprised with how fresh the laundry smelled, even with no added fragrance.
Comparing Green Sheets with Other Brands
One of the things that I love about Green Sheets compared to other brands is how affordable they are, especially with the trial offer. Plus, they offer the added benefit of fabric conditioner sheets, which some of the other brands donโt provide.
Green Sheets are perfect for high-efficiency machines and dissolve easily, unlike some detergent pods weโve used before that occasionally left a sticky residue. I also appreciate that they can handle small loads, medium loads, and everything in between without the hassle of measuring out liquid detergent. Running as many loads of laundry a day as I do, anything that I can do to reduce mess and make the process easier is an easy yes.
Versatile and Family-Friendly
One of the things Iโve noticed since switching to Green Sheets is how much easier it makes laundry for the whole family. My older kids can easily help out with the washing since thereโs no measuring involved. They just pop a sheet in the machine and get on with it. And letโs face itโanything that gets the kids helping out with housework is a win in my book!
Green Sheets are gentle enough for the babyโs clothes, too. Our youngest has sensitive skin, and Iโm always careful about what detergents we use on his clothes. Thankfully, Green Sheets donโt contain any harsh chemicals, so theyโve been a safe and gentle option for his delicate skin. We've had no ezcema flare ups since using Green Sheets.
Are Green Sheets Worth It?
In shortโyes! For our family, Green Sheets have been a game-changer. Theyโre easy to use, effective at cleaning, and most importantly, theyโre a sustainable choice. With the amount of laundry we do, it feels good to know weโre reducing our environmental impact. Plus, they work just as well as traditional detergents without the hassle of detergent bottles or plastic containers.
If youโre looking for a way to make your laundry routine more eco-friendly without sacrificing cleaning power, Iโd highly recommend giving Green Sheets a try. Theyโre convenient, affordable, and much kinder to the planet.
And with the trial offer of 4 sheets for 95p, thereโs really no reason not to give them a go. From our family to yours, I hope they make as much of a difference in your home as they have in ours!
