Disclosure - we were given tickets to this performance of Little Red Riding Hood at The Sherman Theatre free of charge for the purpose of this review. All opinions are honest and our own.
Today we headed off for a little Christmas tradition of ours - to see a children's show at the Sherman Theatre in Cardiff. I love the Sherman, it's a great family friendly venue, with a great little bar / cafe and seating area so you can relax before and after the performance, which is great if you have children. The cafe serves children's lunchboxes which are a great option if you want to make more of a day out of your trip.
The children were so excited to see Little Red Riding Hood. It is a story that they are familiar with but they have never seen in a live performance before so they couldn't wait to see it! They could see wanted posters for the Big Bad Wolf outside the theatre and couldn't wait to see him in action!
We are introduced to a little girl called Heti who goes to live with her super cool grandmother in the woods. She is reluctant to go but her grandmother is so fun and full of life and gifts her a family heirloom of a red cloak and Heti goes off on an adventure in the woods to find Little Red Riding Hood's grandma.
Along the way she finds the Big Bad Wolf who is absolutely hilarious! The wolf is terribly hungry and looking for something to eat, and when Heti refuses to give up her basket of goodies which is meant for grandma, the wolf derives a plan to eat grandma instead!
Suffice to say it's a children's show and no grandma's were harmed - everyone lives to tell the tale! You'll have to watch it for yourselves though to see how exactly it pans out! There is plenty to keep little ones entertained with fairy lights and catchy songs, it is a real delight of a performance. Keep an eye out for Philip the squirrel, he was a highlight for us!
The show is really great fun and kept my little ones enthralled throughout. The performance was really relaxed so they could sit on the floor at the front and see all the action and you don't have to worry about keeping them still or too quiet, it's a brilliant way to introduce children to live theatre.
The Little Red Riding Hood is showing until the 29th December 2018 and you can book tickets online here. Tickets are £9 each and there are showings in Welsh and English. Be quick as some showings are already sold old and others have low ticket numbers left. The show is aimed at children aged 3-6.
