We love Halloween and often go all out decorating the house with halloween decorations, dressing up in halloween costume and going to Halloween parties and singing halloween songs. We love taking the children trick or treating and always have a huge bowl of sweets for young people who come to our house. Generally I think halloween is just lots of fun.
However, since the covid pandemic of 2020, trick or treating isn't as popular as it was as some people are still being really careful which is understandable. If you can't go out to celebrate Halloween don't worry, you can still have a fun Halloween at home. I have lots of ideas for how to make Halloween at home special...just watch my YouTube video below for inspiration.
Of course, halloween isn't for everyone and some years we haven't wanted to invite trick or treaters to our home for various reasons. I don't think anyone would egg our house if we didn't open the door but just in case I think polite no trick or treat signs are a good idea. Anti-social behaviour is on the increase and large groups of people on halloween night can be an intimidating experience and sometimes they do get up to irresponsible behaviour so it is perfectly understandable that some people might want unexpected callers like that kept away from their home. Remember that Halloween can be great fun, but shouldn't be at the expense of others.
I have created this free no trick or treating poster which you can print out at home and put up on your gate, front door or front window to discourage people from knocking or ringing the doorbell, whilst still wishing them a happy Halloween.
