Last week I bought some bread from 'bargain Greggs' - a Greggs outlet shop we have in town. I got two HUGE bloomer loaves for 50p. Of course we couldn't actually eat all that bread and having no space in the freezer I turned some of it into a yummy pudding.
Recipe adapted from a Delia Smith Recipe.
Ingredients
9 slices day old white bread
50g dark chocolate
100g milk chocolate
75 g butter
425ml double cream
110g caster sugar
3 large eggs
Method
Place all the ingredients except the eggs in a bowl on top of a saucepan of boiling water until melted together. Whisk the eggs and slowly add the melted chocolate mixture.
Cut the crusts off the bread and cut into triangles. Grease an ovenproof dish and spoon a layer of chocolate mixture at the bottom. Top with layers of bread triangles and more chocolate sauce. Keep layering until all the ingredients are gone. Squish down the bread so that it soaks up the chocolate sauce. Cover and leave overnight in the fridge. Remove and bake on 180 degrees for 30-35 minutes or until the top is crispy.
You can serve this with cream but I prefer it on its own.
