1. Chess
In many ways, Chess is the ultimate game. It's great for challenging your mind, has a ton of strategy to it, and all you need is a basic chessboard and a friend to play. You can play in silence or put on some music to create an ambience; either way, this is a game to take your time with and relax into.
You could also opt to curl up on the couch and play online against the computer or opponents from all over the world.
2. Solitaire
Solitaire gets its name from the French word to be alone. This relaxing card game has you building four decks that must each start with an Ace and end with a King.
The game has a certain addictive rhythm to it that you're sure to fall for, making it perfect for a slow afternoon.
3. Scrabble
If you have some friends or family with you on your day off, Scrabble can be an excellent choice. If you haven't played before, the game comprises a competition to see who can create the best words on the board. Its slow pace makes for a relaxing afternoon activity and gets your mind working in just the right amount to not be too taxing.
If you don't have a board, you can also play the game online.
4. Backgammon
Backgammon is great fun, and it's simple enough for those of all ages and skill levels to enjoy. The game is essentially a race between two players to get their 15 counters (otherwise known as 'men') across to the other side of the board first.
Played on a cute little board, it's a great one to sit and chill with as you and your friend have a coffee and a chat!
5. UNO
If you're looking for a laugh as you relax with your friends on your day off, then UNO is for you.
Many people consider UNO as a glorified version of snap, and there might be some truth to that; players take turns to place cards to match colours and numbers in a bid to get rid of all their cards, and given the special cards available, there are many opportunities to hilariously scupper your opponent's chances!
6. Dominoes
Dominoes has been enjoyed all over the world for decades, and it's easy to see why.
The game can be played on any flat surface, with players taking turns to match each domino on the end of a row according to the number of dots. The first player to get rid of all their tiles wins.
It's slow and methodical - perfect for a calming afternoon or evening.
