So, for weeks, possibly months – you’ve been rushing around, keeping everything on schedule, looking after the kids, making sure everyone is ready for school, doctor and dental appointments, visits to the vets with the dog, supporting your partner with their endeavours, all while trying to keep on top of the housework!
You need to unwind. And one way to do this is to treat yourself. And I don’t mean going out and buying that perfect toilet seat for a new bathroom – even though that would be a treat for everyone! No, you need to spoil yourself from time to time, but that can be difficult especially if you’re on a budget. So here you’ll find a few ideas of how you can unwind without breaking the bank!
Grab a book and head to a local café
You’ve had a book at home that you’ve not had chance to pick up – well now is the time to head straight to a café and relax. If you don’t have a book in mind then there may be a café in the area that has books available to read. If not, make a library stop to pick out one you’ve had your eye on. If you’re not a big reader, then go and treat yourself to your favourite gossip magazine and catch up on all the showbiz you’ve missed while you’ve been a busy parent.
Digitally disconnect
We all love our phones and having access to everything all in one little place! But did you know that having your phone to hand, constantly going off or just aimlessly scrolling through social media out of habit, is actually bad for you – and can put you in a bad mood! Try a day or just a few hours, totally disconnected from your phone or smart device.
Arrange a face-to-face meet with a loved one or a friend – just like the old days!
Home “spa” time
Start with a good bubble bath, bath soak or fragrant bath bomb. Then a body butter for a pampering moisturiser. Finally, nail prep and add a fresh coat of polish. You can find everything mentioned for a few pounds!
If you are crafty and DIY projects are therapeutic for you, there are recipes for bath bombs, bath milk, body scrubs or body butter. If you don’t have the opportunity to be alone in your home for the time it takes to do your own nails, check out a local nail bar or find a technician that will come to you!
Movie Night
If you have Netflix, Amazon Prime or another streaming subscription, then block out a few hours and settle down to watch that film you’ve been meaning to see. If movie time at home isn’t an option, go to the movies by yourself or with a friend! Or go with your partner and have a well deserved date night.
Have a nap!
When was the last time you got out of bed when you wanted? Sneak off for a couple of hours and have a well earned rest!
