Instructions
- Prepare the cupcakes: Sift the dry ingredientsโflour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and saltโinto a large bowl. Add butter and blend with a food processor until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the milk, egg, and vanilla extract. Gradually add this mixture to the dry ingredients, beating until everything is fully combined.
- Fill the cupcake liners: Place the batter into cupcake liners, filling each one a little over halfway. Bake in a preheated oven at 170ยฐC (325ยฐF) for 20-25 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs.
- Cool the cupcakes: Let the cupcakes cool on a wire rack before frosting.
- Frosting and Decorating:
- While the cupcakes cool, make the frosting by beating the butter and sifted powdered sugar until smooth. Add milk gradually to get the right consistency. Spoon the frosting into a piping bag with a Wilton tip or any small round tip for piping.
- Frost the cupcakes: Once cooled, pipe the white frosting onto the top of the cupcakes.
- Make the spider's body: Take an Oreo cookie, split it in half, and place one half in the center of the frosting.
- Add spider legs: Using chocolate writing icing or melted chocolate, draw spider legs extending from the edge of the cupcake toward the spiderโs body.
- Add candy eyes: For the final touch, use candy eyeballs or pipe eyes with black writing icing and white chocolate on the Oreo spider's body.
Pro tips:
- You can use black licorice to create spider legs for an extra spooky effect.
- Want something a little different? Try switching to orange buttercream for a pop of Halloween color or drizzle chocolate glaze on top for extra richness.
- No piping bag? No problem! Simply spoon the frosting onto your cupcakes and spread it around with a spatula.
- If you're short on time, feel free to use a box mix from the grocery store and add your own flair with fun decorations.
