How To Stay Warm and Save Money This Winter

    Sep 24, 2015 · Modified: Feb 9, 2026 by Ali · Leave a Comment

It is getting colder now, autumn is really here and before you know it we'll be in the deep of winter! I don't mind the colder months but I do mind the utilities bill when it lands on the doorstep! So here are some tips on how to stay warm this winter and save money.

    Wrap up warm

Don't turn the heating on - put on an extra jumper or snuggle up under a cosy blanket on the sofa.

    Insulate your Home

There are so many grants available for free home insulation - get googling and find out if you could benefit. We did it and our house is so much warmer now. We paid nothing to install it and it saves us money every winter.

    Double Glazing

If you don't have double glazing installing it will add value to your home and really save you money on your heating bills. So much heat is lost through poorly fitted and drafty windows so decent double glazing is really a wise investment.

Be Careful with your Central Heating

If you really must put on the central heating on make sure you have the thermostat turned down as low as you can - every degree saves you money. Also make sure you time it right - there is no point having it on all night when you are tucked up in bed but an blast of heating in the morning for an hour when you are getting ready is lovely and a much cheaper option.

    Get Active

Moving around will keep you warm (and fit!). Stick on an exercise DVD or do some housework or cook up a home cooked meal for your family and you'll be warm in no time!

Do you have any tips on how to stay warm without spending a fortune this winter? I'd love to hear them!

    This is a collaborative post.
