I am one of those weird people that like making new year's resolutions. There is something really motivating about the blank canvas of a new year in front of us and it inspires me to want to do better and to make more out of life.
Generally I follow up on my resolutions from last year, but I have looked back and I can't see that I wrote any for 2023. I'm guessing that is because 2022 was a bit of a health struggle year for me and I was just glad to be getting through it. Not that 2023 has actually been much different but there you go!
Previous New Year's Resolutions
I'm writing this at the moment from a cruise ship docked in Barbados. We are flying home today and due to arrive on New Year's Eve, starting the year exhausted from travelling but rested and refreshed from the most amazing holiday. I have managed to upload a video each day of our trip to my YouTube channel if you are interested in watching.
2024 marks the first year where all the children are in school full time so I have a bit more time on my hands to dedicate to some projects and work that I have planned. I still have the crazy school run routine though so a large chunk of my day is still going to be spent ferrying the children around! With that in mind, here are my resolutions for 2024...
5am club
I love getting up earlier than everyone else, there is something to special about the house being quiet and peaceful before sunrise. I have tried the miracle morning before but fell out of the habit when I was unwell so I want to start it up again. I have actually written out a full daily routine which I plan on sticking to as much as I can.
Exercise
Because of ongoing issues with my back and neck I have fallen out of the habit of exercising and I need to change that in 2024. I plan to head to the gym every weekday at 6am for half an hour, whether that is a class or a gym session and also fit in a dog walk and ideally another gym session or yoga class in the evenings. I'm under no illusions and I know this is going to make me really tired and possibly cause my back to flare up but I am determined to keep fit.
Lose weight
I've never really seriously worried about my weight before but over the last couple of years my weight has ballooned and it definitely won't be helping my back issues - and I'm not loving how I look and that I can't fit into any of my clothes! I plan on losing 2 stone in 2024 through moving more and being more mindful about what I eat. Dieting is not for me but I want to stick to a vegan diet as much as possible and eat non-processed food that is nutritious and eat less junk food.
Home renovations
I love interiors and like to always have a home project on the go. I have several plans for our home this year. I might not manage to get them all done, but I am going to try!
- Finish staircase
- Finish panelling in hallway
- Doors panelled and painted
- Paint dining room radiator
- Paint back door
- New artificial lawn
- Utility room project (install sink and organise)
- Pantry
- New kitchen flooring
- Study into bedroom
- Decorate N's bedroom
- Bedroom into study
This is quite an ambitious list and I'm fully prepared for it not all to get done as I imagine we will have both time and budget constraints.
Travel
I love travelling and I would like to take at least one trip abroad this year, maybe a spot of summer sun or a few days exploring a European city. I'd also love to get away again to somewhere sunny next Christmas / New Year, I just may need a lottery win to help with that!
Finances
Funnily enough, after the above two very expensive resolutions we come to financial resolutions. Over the last year our spending has gotten out of control and we have extra financial burdens we didn't used to have such as private school fees. I have been listening a lot to Dave Ramsey and plan on significantly cutting down our expenses this year as well as spending less and paying off some of our debts. I will write another post about how I plan to go about this so if you are interested in that sort of thing, sign up to our newsletter so that you don't miss any upcoming posts.
Work
Finally, I plan to work really hard this year, on my three blogs, and on my two YouTube channels. If I can increase my income through these channels it will mean I can better achieve my other resolutions!
So there we have it - a very ambitious list of things that I want to achieve in 2024 - but if you don't aim high, you won't get there right?! To be honest if I tick off half of what I want to achieve I will be happy and consider it a success!
Do you write new year's resolutions? I'd love you to share them with me - feel free to leave me a comment or connect with me on Instagram.
Here's to a healthy and successful 2024!
