Disclosure - we were gifted some of these products from Smiggle free of charge for the purpose of this post on tips on how to get classroom ready. All opinions are honest and our own.
Well, the children are going back to school (again!). In Wales they have been off school since before Christmas and are going back in stages, the youngest children first, and then the older ones after Easter. I'm trying to get organised with back to school gear for them again! I'm working with Smiggle to showcase some of their great back to school products and share with you some tips on how to get classroom ready.
Some children are really looking forward to getting back to school, and some children are feeling more anxious. This anxiety is understandable, they have been home for a long time, and in the past year have been in and out of school and seen their normal lives and routines turned upside down. My children are feeling excited about seeing their friends again but nervous to leave home, after all, they have been with me 24/7 for the last 3 months. Non-essential shops aren't open here in Wales yet so we have had to order lots of things online, such as new uniform or bottles, pencil cases and pens that need replacing. Smiggle has a great website which is really easy to use, delivery is fast and to your door and they always seem to have a great offer on.
At the moment Smiggle's Galaxy range looks amazing. The designs are bright and colourful and suit boys and girls. My daughter loved browsing the website picking some bits she needed and some extra treats too! I always remember as a child loving having new back to school gear and anything that makes them feel excited and look forward to going to school at the moment is a win in my book. So here is a list of things you might want to pick up to get classroom ready for heading back to school again.
Uniform
At the rate children grow you might very well need to pick up some new uniform. This can be tricky with non-essential shops being closes so make sure you try on uniform and shoes in plenty of time to order online. You can buy feet measuring gauges for children's feet or print out a measuring guide.
Pencil case
Each school will have different rules following Covid but in ours they don't like equipment to be shared so it may be useful for your child to take their own pencil case in. Fill it up with pencils, colouring pencils, pens, a rubber, ruler and a pencil sharpener.
Pens
Smiggle has all sorts of great pens and pencils which your child will love filling up their new pencil case with. These scented gel pens are a huge hit with my children!
Lunchbox / Bag
A nice sturdy lunchbox that you can fit everything in is ideal so your child isn't taking lots of different pots and bags into school. If your school allows you can send your child in with a bag which will hold everything. This drawstring bag from Smiggle's Galaxy range is lightweight and small and yet thick and great quality. It is also perfect for a PE kit if your child needs one.
Masks
Depending on the rules for your school your child might need to wear a mask in school or on transport on the way there. I have a bundle of washable reusable face masks to hand so that my eldest can have take two clean ones each day, one to wear and one in case she misplaces it. I buy them on Etsy.
Drinks bottle
It is really important that your child stays hydrated throughout the day. A nice sturdy water bottle is necessary, Smiggle have some great fun designs like this Galaxy space design. Don't forget to label it with your child's name - you don't want them accidentally drinking from someone else's.
Keys / Keyring
If your child is older they might need keys to let themselves in when they get home. These cute unicorn key rings have initials on, meaning their keys will be more recognisable and hopefully harder to lose, and they are scented too!
I hope that you found this post on how to get classroom ready useful. It can be a bit daunting sending your children back to school during the pandemic when they have spent so much time at home. Ensuring that they are well prepared both materially and mentally should help to ensure that the transition goes smoothly.
